THE REVELATION OF ST. JOHN

The final book of the Holy Bible comprises the remainder of this series of editorial cartoons entitled BibleloreLite.

Exiled to the isle of Patmos by Domitian in 95 A.D., St. John (the other one) has seen the hereafter in a series of visions. The visions of Ezekiel and Zechariah six centuries earlier in the 6th century B.C. were not the last to appear to the long line of prophets. As if not to be outdone by Zechariah's eight visions (meant to be comforting words from the Lord), John of Patmos claimed to see a myriad of revelations of the hereafter, heaven.

These can be found in his book, The  Revelation of St. John the Divine.  Some are not new, e.g. the four horsemen; the candlestick and the two olive trees; and the scroll. John must have reflected well on Zechariah's visions; they found their way into John's rich imagination, which must account for the remainder of wild and hallucinatory images he conjured up.

The following series illustrates the selected text of John's actual words.  Click the Back button of each cartoon to return to this table of contents.
